Frequently Asked Questions

Our department offered both taught (M.A.) and research (MPhil. & PhD) programmes for students who would like to pursue further studies in the discipline.

The M.A. programme is a taught degree designed for students with some anthropology background who wish to deepen their understanding of East Asia, and for people who have not majored in anthropology but would like to receive a formal education in the discipline. Work experience is desirable, so that students can better relate coursework to their profession.

The MPhil and PhD programmes are research degrees which recruit candidates that have majored in Anthropology or related fields. Students work closely with a supervisor in reading the literature, conducting research and developing his or her thesis. This allows each student's study to be tailored to his or her needs. Students are expected to be highly self-motivated in the research programmes.
