What do curators do? How can arts and culture be researched, interpreted, and exhibited in provocative approaches?

To curators, it is crucial to not only engage with diverse practices of cultural professionals, but construct new narratives from the complex and unresolved histories of contemporary culture in fostering dialogues with wide ranges of audiences. This course provides critical study of curatorial practices, reviewing its tradition, limitations and possibilities for promoting cultural development.

Considering curatorial practices as a means of creative inquiry and knowledge making, this course examines different rationales and presentation modes of exhibitions and considers how the notion of curation evolves in response to changing climates of arts and culture. It also explores how digital technology would be used to bring multiple layers of engagement in an exhibition space.

In this course, we will develop creative means to interrogate personal stories within the context of local culture and present these stories through objects, images, and text.
