Welcome to the Faculty of Arts at CUHK!
Ever since its establishment in 1963, the Faculty of Arts has dedicated itself, always from a comparative and trans-regional, global perspective, to the study of tradition and modernity, of Chinese and Western civilizations.
Today, we are proud to be one of the best and most comprehensive humanities faculties in Asia, attracting students, teachers, and researchers coming from around the world. We are a diverse and dynamic community committed to excellence in bilingual teaching and learning, and it is my pleasure to welcome you all.
Having recently celebrated the 60th anniversary of both the Faculty of Arts and CUHK with students, colleagues, and alumni worldwide, I begin my second term as Dean with an even greater sense of pride and purpose. Our Faculty is in an excellent condition and ready to move forward and scale new heights. I remain deeply honored as well as humbled to lead the Faculty in its many endeavors.
I believe a humanities education is indispensable to a meaningful appreciation of the richness of human history and to the imagination of a shared and desirable future. This foundational education equips us to better tackle complex and challenging issues that we face in the world, from climate change to geopolitical shifts.
As humanities scholars, we strive to contribute new ideas, narratives, and knowledge in response to societal needs and changing times. Our best research will always be impactful as it breaks new ground and makes bold, interdisciplinary connections. We will continue to create platforms that promote cutting-edge, collaborative research projects both across and beyond the Faculty.
As educators, we are committed to nurturing our students into creative and rigorous learners with a humanistic sensibility and a global vision. We encourage them to broaden their intellectual horizon, acquire new languages and perspective, and gain new life experiences. By providing various forms of support and opportunities, such as scholarships and studying abroad programmes, we prepare our students for many exciting career options and opportunities in the future.
