Heartfelt congratulations to Professor Ying Fuk Tsang, Department of Cultural and Religious Studies for being awarded the Vice-Chancellor’s Exemplary Teaching Award 2022! Professor Ying enrolled in the History Department of United College in 1983. In 1989, Professor Ying obtained his M.Phil. at CUHK. After 3 years of teaching as a secondary school teacher, he decided to pursue his doctoral studies and obtained his PhD in 1995 at CUHK.
Professor Ying first started teaching Chinese Christianity at a local theological seminary in 1993. Since 2004, Professor Ying has been teaching at the Department of Cultural and Religious Studies (Divinity School of Chung Chi College) at CUHK. He once seriously asked himself a question when he was a university freshman, “Should I become a schoolteacher after graduation? I could not imagine myself by committing to theological education, let alone embarking on an academic research path”. After 30 years of engaging in theological education, Professor Ying is now excitedly looking forward to another stage of life—retirement.
Being awarded the university’s Vice-Chancellor's Exemplary Teaching Award again, Professor Ying is filled with gratitude.
“I am grateful to CUHK for facilitating an excellent academic environment. Integrating academic research with teaching is an unforgettable and fundamental vocation for all university teachers. I am grateful to every student who has passed through my classroom because, without them, the role and responsibility of a "teachers" cannot be fulfilled. The opportunity to participate in theological education, cultivate historical consciousness, remain loyal to the dignity of history, and encourage students to value local Church history has been of the most satisfying aspect of my many years of teaching”.
Professor Ying always maintains a humble heart, he shared “In Pursuit of Excellence is the motto of Chung Chi College, which also reminds me how to face various challenges and strive for excellence in this era of dramatic changes”.
