Octopus Card
You are strongly advised to purchase an Octopus debit card to facilitate your transport in Hong Kong. These may be purchased from customer service counters at Mass Transit Railway (MTR; metro) stations, as well as at the Arrival Hall of the Hong Kong International Airport. Note: all transportation costs quoted below assume that you are using an Octopus Card. Single journey tickets are generally more expensive. Before you leave Hong Kong, remember to return your Octopus to one of the customer service counters in order to get a refund on your deposit and unused credit.
Arriving at CUHK from the Hong Kong International Airport
Via Metro
Airport MTR Station -> University Station (HK$84.5)
- Take the Airport Express Line to Tsing Yi station.
- Switch to the Tung Chung Line (orange) towards Hong Kong.
- Stop at Lai King station and switch trains to the Tseun Wan Line (red) towards Central.
- Get off at the Prince Edward station and switch again to the Kwun Tong Line (green).
- Stop at the Kowloon Tong station, change trains to the East Rail Line (light blue) towards Lok Ma Chau/Lo Wu and get off at the University station.

Via Bus (Bus A41+MTR: HK$27.8/ BUS E42+MTR: HK$18.4)
- Take the Airport Bus A41 or E42, and get off at the Sha Tin Central Bus Terminal.
- Walk to Sha Tin MTR station (5 minutes) and take the MTR East Rail Line (light blue) towards Lok Ma Chau/Lo Wu. Get off at the University Station.

Via Taxi (approximately HK$350)
Take a green taxi from the airport directly to The Chinese University of Hong Kong (Red taxi also works, but with a bit higher fee).
Arriving at CUHK from Shenzhen
Via Shenzhen Train Station (HK$25)
When you exit the train station, you will see the sign “Hong Kong” guiding you towards Luohu Customs (罗湖口岸). Walk through the immigration and customs clearance at the station and arrive at Hong Kong. Take the MTR East Rail Line (light blue) towards Hung Hom and get off at the University station.
Via Shenzhen Airport (approximately HK$42.8)
At the Airport’s B District, you can take the shuttle bus, K568, to Luohu Train Station (罗湖火车站). Walk through the immigration and customs clearance at the station and arrive at Hong Kong. Take the MTR East Rail Line (light blue) towards Hung Hom and get off at the University station.
Via Hung Hom (紅磡) Intercity Through-Train Terminus (HK$6.5)
If you are taking the MTR Intercity Through-Train to Hung Hom station, change to the MTR East Rail Line (light blue) towards Lok Ma Chau/Lo Wu and get off at the University station.
Arriving at CUHK from Macau (approximately HK$170-$190)
Take a ferry from the Macau Maritime Ferry Terminal or the Macau Taipa Ferry Terminal to the Hong Kong Macau Ferry Terminal. The journey lasts approximately 45 minutes, excluding immigration and customs clearance in Macau and Hong Kong.
- After arriving at Hong Kong, take the MTR from the Sheung Wan station and
- Stop one station later, in Central, to switch to the Tseun Wan Line (red) towards Tseun Wan.
- Get off at the Mong Kok station and switch again, to the Kwun Tong Line (green).
- Stop at Kowloon Tong station. From here, take the East Rail Line (light blue) towards Lok Ma Chau/Lo Wu and get off at the University station.
