We are greatly saddened that out-of-town attendees will not get the chance to physically visit and explore Hong Kong with our department as they would under regular circumstances at our conference. In light of this, we have put together a cultural event program entitled "Hong Kong, Rural and Urban" on Sunday, January 31st. Registered attendees will have the opportunity to attend two free events highlighting Hong Kong everyday life and culture in both its urban centers and rural outskirts.
First, we have scheduled a virtual walking tour of urban Hong Kong led by Walk in Hong Kong. The tour will start at 11:00AM and last for about an hour as it takes us through Sham Shui Po’s long-standing shops and historical streets.
We have also organized an ethnographic video screening presented by local documentary filmmaking group "v-artivist影行者". The video presentation will be from 1:00-2:30PM and offer a window into rural Hong Kong life through a look at New Choi Yuen Village菜園新村. The filmmaking group includes CUHK Anthropology postgraduate student Gloria Wing-yee Chaung, as well as other members who engage with issues related to rural Hong Kong.
Information about how to attend both events will be sent to the email provided upon registration for the forum.
