Minor in Cultural Heritage Studies

Minor in Cultural Heritage Studies

Anthropology now has a new minor programme that Anthropology majors can take. This programme focuses on the preservation and management of cultural heritage in Hong Kong and adjacent regions. After taking this programme, students will be able to develop their careers in museums, education (particularly Citizenship and Social Development / Liberal Studies), tourism, as well as other areas related to culture. The programme is co-organized by the Department of Anthropology and the Department of History. To minor in the programme, students shall complete 18 units of courses as designated by the two departments:

Applicable to students admitted in 2022-23 and after

(1) Required Courses (6 units)

HIST1000 History for Today or;
HIST1700 Introduction to Public History: Theory and Practice

AND

ANTH2730 Preserving Cultural Heritage or;
ANTH2760 China’s Cultural Heritage

Note: One of these four courses, not counted towards the fulfillment of the requirement of Minor Programme in Cultural Heritage Studies, may be taken as an elective course counted towards the fulfillment of 12 units of elective courses listed below.

 

(2) Elective Courses (12 units)

Any 4 courses from the following, with at least 1 course from each group, and at least 2 courses at 3000 or above level

HIST1000 History for Today or;
HIST2001 Historiography (Introductory)

AND

ANTH2730 Preserving Cultural Heritage or;
ANTH2760 China’s Cultural Heritage
