With a multidisciplinary background, I am driven to study anthropology at CUHK by my long-standing engagement with grassroots social justice initiatives in non-violent peacebuilding, migrants’ and refugees’ rights, rural development, and ecological conservation.
I am interested in the anthropology of development, migration, and justice. My PhD research seeks to understand how rural entrance communities to China’s Giant Panda National Park are developing the nature education industry, through which new possibilities for nature-based development emerge in rural China. I ask what the future looks like for rural people and places as they undergo “rural revitalization” and how, in this process, they embody new development opportunities, responsibilities, and restrictions within the national and global pursuit of ecological civilization and sustainability.
