Ina Goel works with the hijra communities in India. She is also the founder of The Hijra Project, an online advocacy portal for the third gender communities. Her research interests include gender and sexuality studies, studies of home and family, public health and media studies.
Ina has spoken about her research at various platforms including The Geffrye Museum, Indian Social Work Congress, SOAS Queer Asia, University of Cambridge, UCL India Voices Festival and Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai.
She is a former recipient of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) scholarship at the Department of Epidemiology & International Public Health at Bielefeld University, Germany.
Previously, she has worked with All India Radio, Al Jazeera English and has been associated with many community radio stations. She has also worked in various capacities in research and training with Family Health International, UNICEF, Delhi State AIDS Control Society, Indian Institute of Mass Communication, Plan International, UCLU Women’s Network and Office of the Vice-Provost (Research), University College London.
She has written for The Wire, Sexualities, The Fem Lit Magazine, The Economic and Political Weekly, Gorakhpur Newsline and Feminism in India.
