After attending undergraduate courses offered by sociology, I was guided to an “unintended consequence” – the dazzling field of anthropology. Dazzling though, this discipline also causes unrest: I am permanently haunted by what I study, who I stand by, and who I am. During my working years in the pandemic, I was struggling with these self-inquiries throughout. After I recalled the lessons and care I received from insects in my childhood, I figured out a temporary but meaningful-to-me way: to re-become an insect lover.
Currently, my main interests are multispecies ethnographies and environmental anthropology. I am attempting to bridge my multispecies account of insects and insect lovers in China with a broad social-political context: state-society relations, environmental politics, animal laws, and moral troubles. I am fortunate to have you witnessing my perplexities and delights.
