Online Exhibition of Traversing the Forbidden City Series ── Masterpieces behind the Vermilion Walls

With the support of the Palace Museum, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department is staging the “Traversing the Forbidden City” series. Through specific themes, the series introduces the profound historical culture and wisdom found in the Forbidden City. To ride on the successful launch of the online exhibition The Common Folks behind the Vermilion Walls in 2020, the Art Promotion Office has collaborated with the Department of Fine Arts of The Chinese University of Hong Kong again to present the online exhibition Masterpieces behind the Vermilion Walls. The online exhibition illustrates the pursuit of exquisiteness in aesthetics in five senses including topics of dazzling curios boxes, delicious salty milk tea and coffee, aromatic utensils for incense, resonating music, warmth in the winter and chill in the summer. Masterpieces behind the Vermilion Walls invites you to embrace the beauty of life in ancient China.

The series will launch two other online exhibitions in the near future, namely Sentiment and Sensibility behind the Vermilion Wallsand Reckoning in Lives behind the Vermilion Walls. The exhibitions will introduce the Forbidden City from an array of aspects and different stories, connecting our everyday lives. Stay tuned for further updates.
