Live Art 1993-2020: Beyond Black Box and White Cube, Between Asia and Europe

Approaches to preservation and re-enactment of performance art have received much attention in museums and academia recently.
However, there is little research regarding those issues in Asian contexts. The main obstacle for performance art research in Asia is the lack of data and critical analysis of discourses
generated in local contexts. This project seeks to fill such gaps. Since the 1990s, live art festivals experimenting with performance art have been a crucial platform across Asia,
with the region experiencing another shift due to COVID-19. This project explores the collaboration and new aesthetics in live art practices through transregional exchange,
and assesses the aesthetics that have shaped certain international styles, including indigenous philosophies, Asian rituals, and postcolonial conditions.
The project will also contribute to the intersecting fields of contemporary art, performance art studies, and postcolonial studies in Asia.
