Introduction to Socially Engaged Art in Hong Kong – Strategies for Social Impact

The Fine Arts Department presents a lecture by Doctor Mai Corlin, Impact Postdoctoral Fellow.

This lecture presents the strategies of social engagement created by art practitioners, strategies that might be useful models to develop new impact cases by members of the Arts Faculty.
These strategies are not mere art education, they represent in fact ways to create or rebuild communities by bringing people together in engaged and original ways.
Doctor Mai Corlin has spent years researching the domain of socially engaged art in Mainland China, particularly the Bishan Commune project created by artist and activist Ou Ning. Over the last year, she has been involved with a large group of practitioners and associations in Hong Kong and the region to observe and analyze their missions. The result of this research will be the theme of this first lecture, hopefully the first of further interactions with members of the Arts Faculty.
