CUHK Faculty of Arts Invites Applications for Future Leaders in Digital Humanities Fellows
Digital Humanities represents an important and growing field and methodology across all humanities disciplines. The Faculty launches the new "Future Leaders in Digital Humanities Fellows" programme to cultivate Digital Humanities (DH) talent within the Faculty of Arts at CUHK and enrich the curriculum with new DH courses.
Eligibility and Quotas
- Full-time teaching staff in the Faculty of Arts
- Three fellows will be selected to join the PI in the fellowship programme
Programme Overview
- The fellowship programme will fund four fellows to receive training in computer science/data science.
- Upon completion of the training, each course teacher will develop a new and innovative digital humanities course on the theme of cross-cultural analytics, i.e. the use of computational methods for understanding the interactions between different cultures over space and time, such as those between China and the West.
- The course to be developed should be an undergraduate course that is open to all students in the Faculty of Arts.
Benefit
The fellowship offers:
- Funding for online training programme in computer science. The training cost, up to HK$70,000, will be reimbursed upon submission of the certificate of completion.
- Mentoring sessions and workshops hosted by leading international experts
- One course teaching relief for attending the online training programme and course preparation.
- Additional funding for relevant software
Deliverables
- Completion of the online training programme in data science
- Participation in mentoring sessions and workshops hosted by leading international experts
- Introduction of a digital humanities course in 2000, 3000 or 4000-level
- Students of the digital humanities courses to present their class projects in a public conference to further publicise the value of digital humanities
- Participation in promotion of the project
Timeline
- 26 January 2024 - application deadline
- February to March 2024 - registration for data science training programme
- April to June 2024 - Mentoring and workshops hosted by leading international experts
- December 2024 – submission of proposal for the digital humanities course
- January to March 2025 - the Faculty Committee on Teaching and Learning reviews the proposals and suggests improvements; the Department Board and Faculty Board votes on the new courses
- April to August 2025 – course preparation
- Term 1 or Term 2, 2025-26 – the digital humanities courses on offer
- April, 2026 – students to present their work in conference
