With a bachelor’s degree in Antiquity, Archaeology and Museology, I cultivated the specific addiction to the past. ‘Heritage’, as a new-emerging phenomenon in 20th century, is the representation of the past in our contemporary society. Therefore, I went to Institute of Archaeology, UCL for my master’s study in Cultural Heritage. By utilising the case study of Tangshan Earthquake (唐山大地震) and Liji Alley Heritage Site (南京利濟巷慰安所舊址), my master’s dissertation explores the selection, negotiation and meaning-making of Chinese dark heritage practices and provides some vantage points for understanding how China’s painful pasts are memorialised in contemporary Chinese society.
For my PhD research, I would like to study the intellectual production and cultural representation of heritage associated with colonialism and war in the East Asian region through anthropological approach. My research interests are archaeological heritage, material culture, social memory, heritage discourse, new museology and critical heritage studies.
