The CUHK Faculty of Arts is delighted to announce that Professor Patrick Wong Chun-man, from the Department of Linguistics and Modern Languages, has been awarded the Collaborative Research Fund (CRF) 2024/25 Collaborative Research Project Grant in the amount of HK$6M.

Professor Wong's project focuses on exploring how prenatal music training affects infants' brain development at birth and their language and cognitive skills up to two years of age. Pregnant women from Hong Kong and Shenzhen will be recruited, with training starting at 26 weeks of pregnancy. The impact of this training on language and cognitive development will be assessed using EEG at birth and at multiple time points afterward. The project seeks to gather evidence supporting the regular use of prenatal music training to enhance children's development, making it beneficial for all, regardless of their baseline abilities.
Professor Wong has been honoured with multiple CRF awards for his collaborative research projects. His dedication to research and efforts in securing grants are highly commendable.
We invite the Faculty community to join us in congratulating Professor Wong and his team for receiving this significant grant. We wish them continued success in their pioneering research endeavours.
