Music beyond Sound: an American’s World of Guqin
Jointly organized by CW Chu College, S.H. Ho College, and the Department of Music, CUHK
Join us for a night of intriguing journey to appreciate the art of guqin (古琴) — an ancient Chinese musical instrument — through the eyes of an American master.
The night will open with the screening of a documentary directed by Mr. Lau Shing Hon (劉成漢), a veteran film-maker, featuring the path to mastery of Mr. John Thompson (唐世璋), from his early studies of the silk string guqin (7 string zither) in Hong Kong and Taiwan since 1974, to his decades-long relationship with communities of arts and music, performing and teaching guqin to audience around the globe.
Participants will also enjoy a live performance of guqin by Mr. Thompson, followed by a moderated discussion with Director Lau and Mr. Thompson.
