Application Procedures for 2025–26 Admissions (Research Postgraduate Programmes)
Latest update as of March 2025: We have reviewed all applications and interviewed shortlisted candidates in December 2024. Application result has been released except for those on the waiting list.
Applications must be made using the CUHK Graduate School Online Application System. Please refer to the CUHK Graduate School website (https://www.gs.cuhk.edu.hk/admissions/) for details.
Specific admission requirements can be found in the section below.
Supporting documents should be uploaded to both the Graduate School’s online system and the Music Department’s specific folder (Web Link will be provided during the application period).
Candidates are not required to indicate their preferred supervisor.

Doctor of Music
It is a professional degree in music composition.
Admission Requirements
In addition to the general requirements of the Graduate School, applicants should have majored in composition or another related field.
Applicants are required to submit:
A curriculum vitae using this standard template: PDF
A representative selection of the candidate's music composition work (3-4 pieces, in which at least one is a large-scale chamber, choral, or orchestral work) in the style in which the candidate proposes to work;
A research proposal of 2-3 pages written in English, addressing the following:
compositional approach, process, and techniques
musical style and examples of comparative practice
proposed structure of the portfolio (including instrumentation and duration)
Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend an interview.
Master of Music
It is a professional degree in music composition.
Admission Requirements
In addition to the general requirements of the Graduate School, applicants should have majored in Music, or have attained equivalent standard.
Applicants are required to submit:
A curriculum vitae using this standard template: PDF
A representative selection of the candidate's music composition work (3-4 pieces comprising solo and chamber works) in the style in which the candidate proposes to work;
A one-page summary of the candidate's proposed area of creative work, written in English
Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend an interview.
