Biography of Speaker
Chikako Tsuruta is a conference interpreter and broadcast interpreter appearing frequently on CNN and NHK (Japan Public Broadcasting Corporation) programs. She is a Professor at Tokyo Woman’s Christian University, Professor Emeritus at Tokyo University of Foreign Studies.
She is a graduate of Columbia Graduate School of Business Administration and Sophia University. She is a member of AIIC (Association for International Conference Interpreters) besides being an Advisor for JAITS (Japan Association for Interpreting and Translation Studies) and Director of the America-Japan Society.

現今，「婚姻幸福」似乎隨處可見，在書店裡，在網絡上，在人們祝福的話語裡。但到底何謂「婚姻幸福」？或者我們應該先問，「幸福」是從何時開始與「婚姻」聯繫在了一起？

在人類學者眼中，「幸福」不僅僅是個人情感或者哲學思辨，更不是可以輕易量化的指標，而是整體社會文化的叢結。因此，來自不同時代，擁有迥異社會文化背景的人群對「幸福」的想像和體驗勢必是不盡相同的。「婚姻幸福」更是如此。看似私密個人的婚姻生活，實則與其所在的歷史社會文化脈絡水乳交融，無時無刻不在與之产生關聯。
那麼，上海五零後「媽媽輩」們心中的「婚姻幸福」圖景會是怎樣的？撐起這些想像的是怎樣的特定歷史境遇？而這些想像又如何與她們日常的親密關係相容相斥？最後，「媽媽輩」們的「婚姻幸福」腳本又是否在「女兒輩」們的婚姻中留下烙印？
本次讀書會圍繞《人類學好野——關於人類的，我都想學》中<卡在夾縫間的「幸福」——由一個「老三屆」上海女人的婚姻說起>一章展開，由本章作者孫琳主講，將透過探問「媽媽輩」們的婚姻情感世界，探討特定的「婚姻幸福」話語如何被形構從而影響我們對婚姻生活的體驗，並反思人類學者在探索陌生人親密關係過程中的角色。

水下考古學是對一切水域遺留下來古代人類文化遺存進行調查、發掘和研究的一門考古學分支學科。歐美國家因其所處的歷史環境背景，較早地涉足水下考古領域。上世紀七十年代開始西風東漸，日本及韓國等亞洲國家也先後於水下考古學開展了嘗試性工作。八十年代末期我國開始開展水下考古工作。其中，經歷了偶然發現、水下調查、整體打撈、保護發掘並向公眾展示各個階段南海Ⅰ號具代表性的考古工作。
「南海Ⅰ號」是一艘南宋時期的沉船，發現於二十世紀八十年代，是一處極重要的水下文化遺產，現保存於陽江「海上絲綢之路博物館」向公眾開放展示。經過考古發掘，「南海Ⅰ號」沉船全貌已逐漸展示在世人面前。沉船船體保存較為完整，屬於中國傳統「福船」類型，具有安全系數高、抗風浪性好、裝貨量大、適宜遠洋航行等特點。沉船屬於南宋時期從中國南方港口（泉州）出發的一條滿載的貿易商船，出水文物總數超過18萬件，堪稱我國水下考古之最，其中尤以鐵器、瓷器為大宗，出水文物中還有各類金、銀、銅、鉛、錫等金屬器、竹木漆器、玻璃器、人類骨骼、礦石標本以及動植物遺存等。是瞭解南宋海上貿易的重要實證材料，顯示了當時中國與國外貿易的主要內容，證實並補充了歷史的相關記載。大量的貿易瓷器是為適應不同市場需求的外銷品種，而不同文化的審美、器型、工藝等也對中國瓷器產生了巨大的影響；鐵器、銅器、絲綢等手工藝製品以及日常生活用品業已成為輸出的主要貨物；大量金、銀、銅幣的出現，顯示宋代高度發達的商品經濟並涉及到海外貿易體系當中。
十世紀以後隨著科技的進步，中外交流已極為頻繁，海上絲路開始進入極盛時期，不同文化間的交流融合使得在中國南部形成了持續發展的南海海洋文明，由其建構的南海海洋文明圈成為聯繫東西方的橋梁和窗口。沉船所處的「海上絲綢之路」開闢時間雖然較晚，但其輻射範圍更廣，社會影響更大，持續時間更久。其航道的開闢及海上網絡的不斷擴展，獲益於東西方的共同開拓。通過海洋交通，相距萬里的人們得以將各自豐富多彩的文化展現於對方面前，交換特有的生產產品，將不同的種族聯繫起來，相互交流共同進步。「南海Ⅰ號」上的大量珍貴文物多具有文化交流、融合的特點，充分展現了在古代中外經濟貿易及文化交流中的重要地位與文明互見的歷史。
講者簡介
孫鍵，1965年11月22日出生，研究員。1987年於南開大學畢業，1987年-2009年在中國歷史博物館（現國家博物館）工作，2009年調入中國文化遺產研究院水下文化遺產保護中心（現國家文物局考古研究中心）。
長期從事水下考古與水下文化遺產保護工作，參加了歷年來的主要水下考古工作。主持了「南澳Ⅰ號」明代沈船考古發掘、「南海Ⅰ號」宋代沈船考古發掘、均州城水下考古調查等工作，獲得2010、2019年全國考古十大發現獎、考古論壇2010年「中國考古新發現」獎。
現為「南海Ⅰ號」宋代沈船考古發掘領隊，政府特殊津貼，中宣部「四個一批」專家、科技部「海洋出水木質文物保護」課題首席專家、教育部哲學社會科學重大課題「中國海洋遺產研究」子課題負責人。

The Faculty of Arts is delighted to share the outcome of the Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) 2020 announced by the University Grants Committee (UGC) on 24 May 2021. In a nutshell, a significant portion of our research (74%) is rated as either world leading or internationally excellent in the humanities and arts.
RAE 2020 is part of UGC’s ongoing efforts to assess the performance of the eight UGC-funded universities in research over a period of 6 years from year 2015 to year 2020. It is a criterion-referenced assessment exercise with three elements:
The Faculty of Arts was represented as 11 units of assessment (UoAs), out of a total of 41 UoAs set up for RAE 2020. Among these 11 UoAs, 8 of them (History, Linguistics & Language Studies, Chinese Language & Literature, Religious Studies, Philosophy, Anthropology, English Language & Literature, Translation) did particularly well in Research Outputs, Impact, and Environment. As Professor David Huddart from the UoA of English Language & Literature put it, “It was heartening to see that all UoAs in the Humanities panel performed well. We noted that particular research areas covered by our UoA were foregrounded as world-leading and we will aim to maintain excellence.”
Notably, over 60% of cases submitted by the Faculty of Arts were judged as making outstanding impact in terms of their reach and significance. 5 out of 13 impact cases are rated as world leading, one of which, for instance, is on “Capacity Building Support Towards the Realization of LGBT Equality” submitted by the UoA of Religious Studies. Another such case is the world-renowned CHANT database that has significantly broadened public access to ancient Chinese texts.
On several occasions, Dean Max Tang has thanked and congratulated all staff members, from academic to administrative, for making this round of RAE a resounding success in the Faculty of Arts. “We have every reason to be proud of what we have achieved,” he said. “Together we will scale new heights in the coming years.”
Prof. Pai Hsien-yung Kenneth, Distinguished Professor-at-Large, delivered a series of three evening public lectures at the University on the classic Chinese novel The Dream of the Red Chamber, between 29 January and 2 February 2018.
The subject of the talks, The Dream of the Red Chamber - the epic late-18th century saga by writer Cao Xueqin, which has spawned its own academic discipline - attracted hundreds of students, alumni, staff members and members of the public. In his opening remarks preceding the series, Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof. Fok Tai-fai paid tribute to Prof. Pai's boundless charisma and his contribution to rejuvenating the propagation of Chinese culture.
Prof. Pai, an avid scholar of The Dream of the Red Chamber, shared his views on the novel's use of poetry, its two different major versions and power of tragedy in its final portion across the three lectures.
In the first lecture, Prof. Pai analyzed the links between the plot of The Dream of the Red Chamber and the many poems and lyrics featured within, explaining how the poetry featured in the novel often acts to foreshadow its storyline. He called the novel an "epic elegy" to the peak refinement of culture in Qianlong-era China, and pointed out the many symbolisms in the book's characters, like the contrast between the protagonist Jia Boayu and his father, Jia Zheng.
The second lecture was a discussion on the comparison between the two major versions of The Dream of the Red Chamber, as reflected through the side character You Sanjie, whose brief appearance and subsequent suicide in the middle section nevertheless rippled throughout the book.
Prof. Pai's final lecture focused on the power of tragedy in the final 40 chapters of The Dream of the Red Chamber, as exhibited by the red cape worn by Jia Baoyu as he becomes a monk in the final chapters, and the tear-filled handkerchief burnt by Lin Daiyu before her death.
Book signing sessions following the first two sessions attracted legions of eager fans of Prof. Pai's writings. He also answered questions on a variety of topics related the The Dream of the Red Chamber following the final session. All three lectures, conducted in Mandarin, can be watched in full on the Facebook page of the Faculty of Arts; footage of the lectures have attracted a total of over 8,000 views to date.
Professor Pai Hsien-yung Kenneth, Distinguished Professor-at-Large of CUHK, delivered two public lectures on Kunqu Opera, a traditional form of Chinese performing arts, at the University on 27th and 29th November 2018. Professor Pai explained in the lectures how he introduced Kunqu and the cultural significance behind to different universities in the Greater China and North America. He also shared his experience in producing the youthful rendition of The Peony Pavilion and The Story of Jade Hairpin, and his mission of rejuvenating the Chinese classic performing arts in order to reach out to the younger generation. The two lectures, which were a prelude to the The Peony Pavilion (Students’ Edition) Joint Performance on the coming Sunday, were attended by over 800 CUHK staff, students and members of the public.
The Peony Pavilion (Students’ Edition), which was jointly presented by the CUHK and the Peking University in celebration of the 55th Anniversary of CUHK and the 120th Anniversary of Peking University, was put on at Sir Run Run Shaw Hall, CUHK on 2nd December 2018 (Sunday). The joint performance was directed by Professor Pai, who invited three CUHK alumni, namely Vivian Yuen, Eugenea Cheung and Gabriel Chau, to perform together with the students from Peking University and more than 10 high schools in Beijing. The show was well-received and played to a full house, attracting an audience of over 1,400, among which we could see a sea of young faces. This proves to a success of Professor Pai’s effort in popularising Kunqu on campuses.
